"1781" is a streamline moderne illustration by Jacob Morales (@theycallmenobody) that pays homage to the roots of the city of angels. Taken from the origin of the first Spanish settlers in 1781, They named the city as follows "El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de Los Angeles." which translates to "The Town of Our Lady, Queen of the Angels."
The wheat shaft represents the first major crop they grew for commerce. The design borrows heavily from the streamline moderne or art deco period of the 1920's that was prevalent in much of the downtown buildings of Los Angeles.
